Amiante have successfully completed an asbestos removal project on a grade 1 listed property in Chute, Andover.

The asbestos thermal insulation was beneath floorboards over four floors with asbestos residues to the wall within the basement.

Due the type of asbestos (asbestos thermal insulation) all works were carried out under fully controlled conditions.

Various removal techniques were used on this project including controlled wet stripping using the injection wetting method and wrap and cut.

Further asbestos was identified during these works, as the project was time critical, Amiante increased the asbestos removal team to ensure all works were complete within the original 12-week program.

The project posed some significant challenges, due to the property being listed. All floorboards had to be measured, comprehensively photographed, numbered, carefully removed and decontaminated for reuse.

Due to other contractors being onsite during the asbestos removals works, an independent analyst carried out Background monitoring and leak testing throughout the project to demonstrate the integrity of the enclosures.

Scope of Works included:

  • Removal and reinstatement of listed floorboards
  • Construction of multiple asbestos enclosures to all floors of the property.
  • Removal of all asbestos and correct disposal of generated waste via an enclosed skip which was delivered to a licensed land fill site.
  • Personal monitoring of operatives inside and outside of the enclosure to confirm control measures to be adequate.
  • Havs Monitoring due to the requirement of utilising a reciprocating saw to cut out pipework.
